RESOURCES REQUIRED
What resources and help will I require
How much time, how much money and whose help
will I need?
All learning requires some resources. This might just be your own time or it
might be major expenditure on external training courses. It is essential that
when considering your aims and selecting the most suitable methods of learning,
you should take resources into account. From your own point of view, you need to
know how much of your own time will be required and whether or not you are
prepared to devote that amount of time. If you are going to require time off
work or a financial contribution from your employer, you will need to be able to
quantify this so that it can be considered in cost benefit terms and,
eventually, be built into the organisation’s budget or plan of work.
If this process is undertaken in an orderly fashion, you are more likely to
be able to take advantage of resources which might be available in your
organisation’s training budget.
Organisations such as the CPD Certification Service can also be used as
sources of further learning material
In addition to concrete resources, such as time and money, it is also useful
to identify the more intangible elements, such as personal support. It is much
easier to undertake a major learning process if you do so in the knowledge that
your boss supports your aims or that there is someone to whom you can look for
assistance should you hit problems. It is worth spending some time finding out
if there is anyone else within the organisation who has undertaken the same type
of study or who is already an expert in the subject area that you have chosen.
Lastly, many types of learning will require that you gain some practical
experience of the areas that you have chosen to study. Does your own
organisation have the ability to offer you this type of experience? If not,
where else can you look?
