Classroom Teacher to Music Lead: Level 1

Approaching Musicianship with Confidence is for Primary School teachers who wish to develop their musical skills for use in the classroom. By the end of the course, you will have developed a strong understanding of pulse and rhythm, feel more confident using your voice in the classroom, and have designed your own strategies for teaching music. There is the opportunity for you to engage with other teachers, sharing expertise and resources with those from around the world. The modules will be presented in a variety of media - a mix of films, podcasts to listen to whilst on the move, articles, presentations and quizzes.

Available as face to face or online delivery. Understanding the way ABRSM exams are assessed will support the entire exam journey for you and your pupil, from preparation right through to the exam itself, and beyond to getting the most from the mark form. You'll gain helpful insights into the aspects of musical performance that you and your pupils need to consider to work effectively towards an ABRSM exam. The session will also explain the principles behind the exam structure and how it works and, using recorded examples, how examiners apply the ABRSM marking criteria to assess each section of the exam. You will come away with a clear understanding of how the mark form comments are intended to help support and guide your pupils’ future musical development.

ABRSM has worked with the Royal Northern College of Music and teachers to create a learning experience relevant to music making in your classroom. It gives you the knowledge and skills you need to start planning and assessing progress with confidence and be able to inspire the next generation of musicians. You will develop an awareness of how to measure progress in the core skills of music making, listening, singing, improvising and composing, and performing. You'll be given examples that will not add to the pressures of your day-to-day teaching, and we'll introduce you to some new teaching resources too.

Developing Musicianship Skills with Classroom 200 is designed for anyone wishing to use Classroom 200 in their teaching. This free course will begin with thorough overview of how Classroom 200 works. The following modules focus on the skills of Singing, Improvising and Composing, Performing and Listening, the essential ingredients of music learning. You’ll see and hear how other teachers are using Classroom 200, and you’ll have a chance to reflect on the strengths and areas of development in your school.

Throughout this course, you’ll gain in-depth knowledge of pBuzz teaching techniques, explore effective strategies for instructing fellow educators, and develop the confidence to lead engaging and impactful pBuzz workshops. Whether you’re a seasoned music teacher or new to the pBuzz, this course will equip you with the tools to become a skilled trainer, capable of inspiring and empowering your colleagues.

This session will provide you with helpful insights and understanding of ABRSM’s exam offer for musical theatre singers, our face-to-face Practical Grade exams and digital Performance Grade exams. Our new Performance Grade exams provide equal recognition, reliability and quality feedback from the same ABRSM examiner team as our longstanding Practical Grade exams. During the session, we will explain the rationale behind these assessments, how ABRSM examiners mark exams and how exams can benefit a student as part of their musical learning journey.

Music Medals are unique assessments that celebrate progress at the earliest stages of learning a musical instrument. This course will provide teachers with all the training they need to be able to administer Music Medals assessments effectively. By the end of this course they will understand how Music Medals are structured and learn how to administer and assess a Music Medal. Music Medals are available in the UK only.
