Attention Deficit Hyper-activity Disorder is a complex neurobiological condition. ADHD usually diagnosed during childhood, and often persists into adulthood. More than two-thirds of children with ADHD will still have symptoms as teenagers. A further two thirds of these teenagers will still have problems as adults. It has been suggested as many as 3% of over 60s may have ADHD. This course will help you to recognise symptoms and formulise strategies, treatment options and prognosis.

Over the past 15 years, we have seen increasing and significant support for children in care and their education, leading to improved outcomes and better life chances for this vulnerable group. New legislation recognises that previously looked-after children will have the same needs even though their care status has changed and places greater emphasis of responsibilities for schools when a child moves out of care. Previously looked-after children start with the disadvantage of their pre-care experiences. These do not just disappear when they move to a permanent placement and may continue to have a significant impact on their learning.

Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening allergic reaction. It can happen very quickly and may cause death if it is untreated. This course aims to raise awareness about anaphylaxis and what the most common causes are. We cover how to support someone at risk of anaphylaxis and how to provide emergency treatment.

It is about supporting people to stay safe and independent. Home Office figures show that there are more than 5,000 unaccompanied asylum seeking children in the UK. Lone asylum seeking children are more likely to have experienced higher exposure to war combat, trauma and torture than those who arrived in the country with adults responsible for them. The difficulties ensuing from years of fleeing their home communities because of war, persecution or organised violence are multifaceted and complex. This course explains these issues and provides some examples how carers can help support these children and young people.

Welcome to our course on Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE). We have a lot to cover including the signs and indicators of CSE and who is likely to be involved in grooming and exploitation activities. You will learn how to identify the signs that CSE might be taking place and how you can support the children and young people you work with. We evaluate the vulnerabilities of children and young people and the long term physical and emotional effects experienced by victims of CSE. We include activities, videos and links to further research and materials.

Child sexual exploitation is the sexual abuse of children and young people through the exchange of sex or sexual acts for drugs, food, shelter, protection, other basics of life, and/or money. In this course you will learn more about the possible sign of sexual exploitation, and how you can support young people who may be at risk. We will consider how children are groomed and what makes young people vulnerable to child sexual exploitation. The impact of exploitation may be severely psychologically damaging and children may remain vulnerable to abuse and exploitation in the future. We look at how you can help the young person in your care.

Children and young people are traumatised by living with domestic abuse. This course on Children and Domestic Abuse enables learners to understand the key issues facing these children, and how to help them to develop resilience and become more able to grow towards healthy and positive adult life.

This course is designed to give you an overview of coaching and mentoring, and to get you to look at some of the key behaviours, skills and techniques used by coaches so that you can apply these to your daily working practice. County Lines was identified in 2014, it describes the approach taken by gangs originating from large urban areas who travel to locations such as county or coastal towns to sell class A drugs. Urban gangs typically recruit and exploit local children/vulnerable young people to courier drugs and cash. They use local property as a base for activities, which involves taking over the home of a vulnerable adult who’s unable to challenge them. The model known as county lines refers to the use of a single telephone number for ordering drugs operated from outside the area which becomes the group’s brand.

Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) is the term currently used to describe the experience of non-school attendance due to very high levels of anxiety. Situations of EBSA can be hugely stressful for everyone concerned. In this course you will learn to, recognise EBSA as one term with many reasons for non-attendance at school, understand the factors that can increase the risk of EBSA, recognise the resiliency factors that support recovery from EBSA, recognise each person's role to play in supporting experiences of EBSA, begin to develop a toolkit of ideas for solutions focused planning, implementation and impact reviewing.

This course aims to raise awareness about epilepsy and the management of seizures. We look at the different types of seizure, how they are diagnosed as well as some of the treatments available. We provide essential first aid guidance to support a person having a seizure caused by epilepsy.
