Not only because they are legally obliged to do so, but also to foster a supportive and inclusive culture, which values employee wellbeing and mitigates the potential impact on the business. Join our 1-hour workshop for an overview of the most crucial points you need to know.

Employers have a general duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to ensure, so far as reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of their employees. Employees must also take reasonable care of themselves and anyone who could be affected by their work. There is legislation relevant to addictive substances, including the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and The Road Traffic Act 1988. Employees will learn the harmful consequences of, smoking and vaping, alcohol and drugs and medication.

One of the biggest challenges facing line managers is addressing underperformance. It is often awkward to manage, with employees feeling ‘picked on’ or being asked to do the impossible. It can be compounded by difficulties such as the poor health of an employee, or temporary improvements in performance which soon disappear. In this advanced version of the workshop, we look at what to do when the first approaches have not worked. We also take a deep dive into court cases, and think about what the employer could have done differently in these situations.

There is no legal definition of bullying but employment arbitrator ACAS describes it as unwanted behaviour from a person or a group that is either, Offensive, intimidating, malicious or insulting, and, An abuse or misuse of power that undermines, humiliates, or causes physical or emotional harm to someone. The bullied person may find themselves in a position of inferiority, feel excluded at work, pushed to the margins of their team or feel forced to leave their employment. This course helps employees understand what is meant by bullying at work and what they should do if they see or experience bullying.

Cleaning work is used as a generic term for all activities to remove dirt and/or dust. These include, for example, floor cleaning, window cleaning, cleaning with a damp cloth or wipe, dusting, cleaning with chemicals, vacuuming and other suction methods or sweeping. This course aims to protect employees whose main role involves cleaning activities of some kind, to understand the hazards and the measures they must take to protect themselves when engaged in cleaning.

One of the most common areas of non-compliance relates to consent. Common errors include poor quality mental capacity assessments, consent being sought from people without any lawful basis and not recognising a deprivation of liberty. These are all a breach of Regulation 11, of The Health and Social Care Act 2008 and Regulation 17. This workshop has been designed to ensure social care providers, managers and key staff know how to comply with the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and the Mental Capacity Act to satisfy CQC expectations and protect the human rights of their service users.

The law covering computer working is the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 2002. You will often hear computers referred to as ‘DSE’ which is short for display screen equipment. DSE includes PCs, laptops, tablets and smartphones. The regulations apply to workers who use DSE daily, for continuous periods of an hour or more. Your employer must protect you from the health risks of working with DSE. This training shows DSE users how to set up their workstation correctly and reduce the risk to their health.

Dry ice is commonly used in laboratories entertainment and hospitality as well as in the storage and transportation of goods such as food and medicine. Anyone who handles dry ice in their line of work needs to be properly trained and aware of the hazards. This course covers what dry ice is the legal requirements around it hazards and risk assessments plus emergency procedures and first aid.

Dust is a hazard found across many industries and dust exposure can cause serious harm to workers' health. Use our training to spread awareness of safe working practices around dust, to reduce or eliminate exposure and prevent occupational diseases caused by dust.

Electricity can kill or severely injure people and cause damage to property. Every year many accidents at work involve electric shocks or burns. Those using or working with electricity are not the only ones at risk. Poor electrical wiring installations and faulty electrical appliances, including chargers, can lead to fire and consequently serious injury or death. Thousands of accidents involving eyes occur at work every year. Although most incidents are minor and have short-term effects, it is estimated that around 10-20% result in partial or full loss of sight. Eyes must be protected from a variety of hazards including splashes, contamination, impact and light filtration. To protect the eye from foreign objects such as dust particles, chemicals, metal swarf shavings and optical radiation, eye protection such as safety glasses are used as a protective barrier. This training will show delegates the measures they need to take to protect their eyes and vision.

This training shows raises employees' aware of the risks of hazardous substances, how to follow company procedures and what to do in an emergency to prevent serious injury and damage.

In this training you will receive important tips on how you can protect not only your own health and safety but that of your colleagues and others affected by your work activities.

Noise-induced hearing loss is the most commonly recognised occupational disease and there is no cure. This is why PPE is so important for preventing hearing loss amongst people who work in loud environments. To keep employees safe, employers must ensure proper hearing protection is provided and used effectively. Hearing protection can include earmuffs, ear plugs and canal caps. This training educates employees on the importance of wearing hearing protection correctly and raises awareness of noise hazards and your duties regarding them.

Most of the time, risks to people who work from home using computers are low but there are risks which must be assessed and controlled including, stress and poor mental health, using equipment like laptops and computers safely and having a comfortable working environment. This training shows employees who work from home how to ensure a safe and productive working environment.

Whilst Mental Health Risk Assessments are not a legal requirement, they can be invaluable in providing guidance for employers on the wellbeing of their staff, and provide information which an employer can then use to target support, This session will be a step -by-step guide on how to create a mental health risk assessment for your workplace.

Many disciplinary situations are straightforward. The employee has done something wrong, the process is followed and an appropriate sanction is given. However, there are always the unusual situations that occur. What happens if an employee goes off sick? What happens if an employee raises a grievance about their line manager part way through the process? In this workshop we will explore how to deal with the tricky situations that can arise from disciplinary actions.

An organisation’s CQC rating is how the public: professionals, and local authorities perceive the service. A poor rating can have serious consequences - damaging reputations, reducing referrals, and even threatening business viability. Even a good rating offers no guarantee of long-term security, as the CQC’s evolving assessment approach means services could be reviewed at any time. Under the new Single Assessment Framework, many services have not been inspected in years, making it even more crucial to be proactive in demonstrating excellence. If you are in contact with other people, whether at home, in public or at work, there is a risk of infection. Our immune system fights off infection from many micro-organisms, so that we do not automatically become ill every time we come into contact with a sick person. However, you can further protect yourself from infection by following some simple hygiene steps which we outline in this training.

According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), falls when working from height were the biggest cause of workplace deaths in 2022/23, accounting for the loss of 40 lives at work. Falls from height were also the cause of 8% of non-fatal workplace injuries during the same period, with many of these involving a fall off a ladder. This training shows employees the right type of ladder to use for a task and how to use it safely.

Today, lift trucks, especially forklifts, are an indispensable part of any business. The lift trucks transport loads too heavy to carry from A to B quickly and make work much easier. At the same time, they regularly cause serious accidents, especially in areas where pedestrians and lift trucks share the same space. This training raises awareness of the risks of using lift trucks and acts as refresher training on the safe use of forklifts and pallet trucks.
