The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98) necessitates abrasive wheels courses for anyone involved in the use, mounting or inspection of abrasive wheels in a workplace. For example, working alongside an unguarded inspection pit would be just as hazardous ‘working at height’ as there is the potential for a fall resulting in injury or even death. Due care must also be given to colleagues and members of the public who may be injured on the ground by those working above.

Our Train the Trainer Facefit course is aimed at individuals who work in a role where it is commonplace to use RPE. These individuals will be fully trained on how to select, fit and test face masks properly in order to protect themselves and their work colleagues from inhaling dust and other dangerous substances. This course is particularly useful and predominantly aimed at any company working under regulations associated with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), Control of Lead at Work (CLAW) and the Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR).

While ladders can be used for low height tasks, it is important to take appropriate measures to reduce risk and candidates will complete the course with an understanding of the risks and the precautions that need to be put in place.

Our Cat & Genny course provides delegates with the essential knowledge to operate a Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) and a Signal Generator (GENNY) when tracing underground services to meet the guidance safely and correctly from HSG 47 for Avoiding Danger from Underground Services. This involves hands-on use of the actual locators to detect and trace the route of buried underground services. This will cover the different types of buried services, current legislation and best practice concerning detecting buried services, the safety implications of not using a locator and associated ancillary equipment, use of local utility plans and observations.

Our confined space training meets HSE guidelines. When working in a confined space it presents a unique set of issues that all workers need to be equipped to deal with. These issues can lead to injury or even death if proper procedures are not followed. The course stipulates which certain working practices must be adhered to including the conducting of risk assessments, clear identification of hazards and how to minimise them – especially where noxious substances could be present – and most important of all, a pre-planned escape strategy should an incident occur.

Our Harness course aims to provide delegates with the basic theoretical and practical knowledge required to use fall arrest and restraint equipment effectively and to carry out pre-use harness and lanyard inspections as required by current regulations. This training allows delegates to select, inspect, use the correct safety harness or lanyard for the job when working at height. Our Ladders and steps inspection course is aimed at supervisors or managers who have successfully completed the "Boss Training Ladder and Stepladder Course". It will equip them with all theoretical knowledge to carry out a thorough inspection of Ladders and Steps. It will give the delegates a knowledge of the statutory requirements for carrying out inspections and the regulations that govern them. Delegates will be given practical instruction on how to carry out an Inspection and the methods of recording such inspections.
