Protecting Children and the Power of Voice in the Search for Justice, what we heard from the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse in England and Wales.

We hear from Anna Gupta, (Professor of Social Work at Royal Holloway University of London), John McKendrick (Professor of Social Justice at Glasgow Caledonian University and co-director of the Scottish Poverty and Inequality Research Unit) and Lisa Bunting (Professor of Child and Family Social Work at Queen's University Belfast) about what the experience of the Covid-19 pandemic and current cost of living crisis tells us about the connections between poverty, inequality and child protection. Considering the impact inequality and deprivation can have on the welfare of children and what this means for how we can support children and their families.

In this webinar we hear from Sharon Maciver, National Director for Child Criminal Exploitation at Action for Children, Deanna Neilson, Director of Safeguarding at Action for Children, and Donna McEwan, Practice Development Advisor, the Children and Young People's Centre for Justice. The speakers will consider how best to equip practitioners, parents, carers, families and communities to prevent, identify, protect against, and understand the risk of child criminal exploitation, and will discuss the work underway on the development of a national framework for practice.

In this webinar we hear from Professor Brigid Featherstone, University of Huddersfield, and Professor Kate Morris, University of Sheffield, on the Rethinking Domestic abuse in child protection, responding differently (RDAC) research. The speakers will share how the project offers a unique opportunity to co-produce practice frameworks that engage with family members with a focus on their parenting and caring roles, and will share some of their case study experiences across sites in England and Scotland.

In this webinar we hear from Anne Longfield CBE, Chair of the Commission on Young Lives, which reported in England last November with a national action plan and recommendations to support vulnerable teenagers to succeed and to protect them from adversity, exploitation and harm. Learning for this webinar is focused on exploring the commission’s findings and recommendations, taking what we know about the exploitation of teenagers in the UK today and considering the possible solutions to protecting young people from such harm which is hidden in plain sight.

In this webinar, we uncover how this approach can reveal hidden patterns and insights and also discuss the critical challenges and limitations associated with it. We will also hear about current efforts to improve how successfully Scotland’s data on children’s social care can be linked to other sources.

Face to face course developing employability skills. This course focuses on identifying personal strengths and skills in order to create a personal curriculum vitae. The course will develop an understanding of how to complete a job search, application form and will explore appropriate behaviour within interviews. The overall objective of this course is to give the opportunity to share and develop strengths and skills to grow confidence when searching for employment.

Face to face course developing an understanding of the British legal system and to explore ideas within criminal psychology. This course focuses on the development of laws and how these laws are implemented within society. This course also focuses on developing an understanding of the ‘nature verses nurture’ debate within psychology. The overall objective of this course is to develop confidence and an opportunity to share ideas and to develop skills to debate these ideas within a group setting.

Face to face course enabling the development of outdoor survival skills. This course will focus on the theory of different aspects of outdoor survival techniques. Individuals will then have the opportunity to develop their practical skills of ensuring that water is safe to drink, build a camp fire, build a field shelter, map reading and creating energy using off grid methods. The overall objective of this course is to develop confidence and an opportunity to work as a team whilst being outdoors in the hope that this will lead to a positive wellbeing.
