A concise overview of ecological and legal planning requirements for solar farms, covering Biodiversity Net Gain, protected species and habitats, and the role of ecological assessment and monitoring in design, consent, and operation.

This course offers a comprehensive introduction to solar energy, beginning with sunlight as a renewable energy source and its journey to Earth. Learners will explore the essential components of a solar farm, from capturing energy to delivering electricity to the grid. Key strategies for optimising solar system performance are covered, including both current approaches and future advancements. Additionally, the course dives into efficiency in photovoltaic (PV) design, explaining what it means and how it’s measured, equipping learners with the foundational knowledge needed to understand and enhance solar energy systems.

This course introduces learners to the UK renewable energy development process, covering major stages from origination through to Ready-to-Build (RTB). Participants will gain insight into the roles and responsibilities of key team members, including Land, Grid, Planning, and Technical teams, and how their collaboration drives project success. Additionally, the course familiarises learners with essential industry terminology, ensuring clear communication and a solid understanding of the language commonly used in renewable energy development. This foundational knowledge equips learners to effectively navigate and contribute to renewable energy projects.

This course provides an introduction to the key factors and processes involved in identifying and securing land for utility-scale solar farm development. It is primarily an interactive course that you can navigate at your own pace. An introductory video is provided by the course tutor, along with a 15-minute assessment.

Participants will analyse the UK’s energy policies, key regulatory bodies, and support mechanisms driving renewable growth. The course also covers the implications of upcoming UK and EU ESG regulations, including Labour's green reforms and the EU's Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). Finally, learners will explore ESG frameworks and governance strategies to enhance transparency, accountability, and social responsibility in renewable energy projects, equipping participants with the knowledge to navigate and influence the evolving sustainable energy landscape.
