Introduction to Good Clinical Practice

This full day course is aimed at healthcare professionals involved in the recruitment of patients into Phase 1 and 2 trials for example, research nurses, clinical studies officers, medics, clinical nurse specialists. This course is structured around filmed consultations with clinicians and patients (actors role-playing patients and relatives). The consultations include end-of treatment, dose escalation and novel agent consultations. The course explores information needs of research participants in early phase studies, giving complex information to potential participants and provides resources for skills development.

This half day course fulfils the mandatory requirements for GCP training update and has been developed by the NIHR in collaboration with the MHRA. The course is designed to update research professionals and staff by exploring the principles and standards of GCP, the EU Directives, UK Regulations and Research Governance Framework requirements covering clinical trials and other research studies conducted in Wales.

This half day course is aimed at research staff working in the NHS and social care settings who are involved in the recruitment of people to research studies. Topics covered within the course include an awareness of the law and consent, the consent process, the skills and knowledge necessary and ethical issues in consent. Delegates will be expected to participate in group work exploring legal and ethical issues in consent within research scenarios.
