Responding to Sexual Abuse Disclosures in the NHS

Older people can experience domestic abuse in their intimate and family relationships. This training course is to explore how domestic abuse can affect older victims. Through an interactive programme you will begin to understand the additional complexities for older victims including the dynamics of abuse, the relationship with the abuser (who may be an adult child) and barriers in accessing support.

This course is to teach professionals who work with people who may be LGBT+ and also experiencing domestic abuse so that they can support them effectively.

This course will give the participant the tools to facilitate effective groups, particularly for group members who have experienced trauma. The participant will understand the importance of structure and preparation needed in ensuring group members feel safe and supported. Participants will practice how to deal with difficult situations that may arise and feel confident to run their own group.

The intersection of domestic abuse and victim mental ill health can increase vulnerability dramatically. Mental health can be used as a tool by perpetrators to further abuse their victim, and the experience of abuse can further exacerbate poor mental health.

IDAS Domestic Abuse Case Management Training has been designed for Team Leaders or Managers of front line professionals to assist them in supporting their staff, who may be working with people affected by domestic abuse to practice in a safe and effective way. This will ensure that front line staff are supported to deliver a high quality service with the safety and protection of non-abusive partners and their children at the forefront of their minds, assisting people in getting the specialist support that they need.

Online training to raise awareness of domestic abuse including facts, figures, who is affected and the services available to support people. After completing the course participants should understand what domestic abuse is including its prevalence. They should be able to recognise common effects and signs of abuse and will know what services are available to victims and have an awareness of best practice.

The course takes learners through in-depth knowledge of domestic abuse, looking at why victims may stay in abusive relationships and the systems and processes that can keep victims and their families safe. The course provides a tool kit to support with recognising domestic abuse, risk assessing victims and their families, developing support and safety plans and understanding when to refer on, take specialist advice and engage fully with multi-agency working."

This course is to teach Military Personnel to respond to disclosures of domestic abuse with empathy' ethics and professionalism.

A full day course to explore, understand and tackle the systems of abuse within domestic abuse. This course explores the additional risks to victims that may be subjected to these additional types of abuse along with conventional domestic abuse. The course will allow the trainees to spot the signs of HBV, FM and FGM and have the confidence and knowledge to support and/or refer these victims appropriately to the correct services.

Children and young people who live in homes where domestic abuse takes place are at risk of abuse, neglect and witnessing traumatic events. This course is designed for professionals who work with children, young people and the whole family to help them understand how to support and safeguard children who may be at risk from domestic abuse.

This course is to teach frontline professionals how to support people experiencing any, or all, of the trio of vulnerabilities – Domestic Abuse, Mental Health Challenges and Substance Misuse.

Disabled people experience domestic abuse at significantly higher rates than the general population, often more than twice as likely to be targeted. This course explores why abuse is more prevalent in disabled communities, the specific tactics perpetrators use to exert power and control, and the unique barriers disabled victims face when seeking help.

A full day course for professionals to understand the meaning of Domestic abuse and all it encompasses. It will help professionals to spot the signs and indicators that may suggest someone is suffering from Domestic abuse. This course will explain how to use the risk assessment tool to identify risks of Domestic abuse and to identify sources of support to these victims. The course will also go though safety planning and the MARAC process.

Coercive control is an insidious and often misunderstood form of domestic abuse. 89% of domestic abuse victims referred to an IDVA have experienced controlling or jealous behaviour, and despite being very dangerous this form of abuse is often under-reported to the police. In this workshop we will learn about the law and legislation around coercive control, types of controlling and coercive behaviour, how to support victims and evidence gathering.

Male victims of domestic abuse are an under-represented victim group, and so often overlooked by professionals. In this course, learners will explore the unique experiences of male victims of domestic abuse and the challenges faced by this victim group. Through group work, case studies and discussion, we will understand potential responses to male victims of domestic abuse, what support exists and how to access it.

This course is designed to equip professionals who work with families to understand and effectively support parents experiencing abuse from their children. It will provide insight into the dynamics of child-to-parent abuse, helping professionals recognize the signs, address the unique challenges involved, and offer appropriate support to both the parents and children involved.

This course looks at young people’s experiences with, and the impacts of, domestic abuse, and offers professionals insight on how to support young clients. Through group work, case studies and discussion, we will understand potential responses to male victims of domestic abuse, what support exists and how to access it.
