Mental Health (Jersey) Law 2016 – Authorised Officer Training

Managers, supervisors and workers who may be at risk from exposure to asbestos in workplace buildings and structures during their normal day to day work. Particularly those involved in demolition, refurbishment, maintenance and allied trades.

This course is suitable for home care support workers and non-mental health professionals. The standards set within the Regulation of Care (Jersey) law 2014 specify the requirement for statutory and mandatory training in the Awareness in Learning Disability, Mental Health and Dementia. The training covers the key elements of Learning Disability, Mental Health and Dementia which will support care staff in recognising their roles and interventions when working with these vulnerable patient groups. It is delivered using the principles of Person-Centred Care as described by the Health Foundation.

This course is suitable for home care and care home staff working with people who may not have capacity. Jersey Care Commission introduced standards as part of the Regulation of Care (Jersey) law 2014. The standards specify the requirement for statutory and mandatory training in the Capacity and Self-Determination (Jersey) Law 2016 (Jerseys equivalate to the Mental Capacity Act 2005) for all care/support workers. This course will support those attending in the undestanding of the legislation

This course is designed for Registered Medical Practitioners (RMP) who are responsible under the Capacity and Self-Determination (Jersey) Law 2016 (CSDL) (Jerseys equivalent to the Mental Capacity Act 2005) for assessing people who may lack capacity and require a ‘Significant Restriction on their Liberty’ (the equivalent for England and Wales is a Deprivation of Liberty). Under Part 5 of the Capacity and Self-Determination law the RMP will complete the medical assessment to identify if the person has an ‘impairment or disturbance in the functioning of the mind or brain’. This training focuses on the information and knowledge required by the RMP to carry out their legal responsibilities.

This session is aimed at HR professionals or line managers who have a responsibility to carry out investigations as part of a company’s disciplinary process as part of a fair process under employment best practice.

This course is suitable for health and social care staff working within residential, home care or day care services. It is applicable to both qualified and unqualified staff who are required to meet the statutory and mandatory training standards specified under the Regulation of Care (Jersey) law 2014 which include conflict resolution. The training will provide the delegates with an understanding of anger, the physiological response to stress and techniques in de-escalating conflict.

This course will assist in understanding the main principles of contractor management and the practical steps that need to be taken to ensure that you meet the compliance requirements of the legislation in your organisation. This training is required to meet the guidelines of the Jersey Display Screen Equipment at Work approved Code of Practice in providing assessors with the skills to assess risks in the use of computer equipment.

Anyone with responsibility for any action in a fire needs to be trained in what their proper response should be. As with all emergency plans they will only be effective if those with actions recognise what those actions are. In any emergency situation people fall back to their training. If they are not trained they become victims because they cannot respond in a positive way. Employers have a duty to assess the risks from any manual handling activity at their workplace and provide information, instruction and training to eliminate or minimise those risks. This session uses a participative training style and is essential training for both established and newly appointed managers. It is designed for those responsible people and will focus on the principles of the management of mental health and stress in the workplace.

Jersey implemented a new mental health law in October 2018. The law has several statutory requirements including the role of Approved Practitioners (APs). An AP is a registered medical practitioner with sufficient training in mental health and the operation of the Law. This training provides the APs with the details of the law required by the Minister of Health and Social Services to fulfil the function.

Falls are the largest cause of accidental death in the construction industry. They account for 50% of all fatalities. There is no distinction between low and high falls. This means that for any work at height, precautions are required to prevent or minimise the risk of injury from a fall. This course is intended to provide basic information for anyone managing, carrying out or affected by work at height. It does not cover the specialised skills required to carry out specific tasks, these must be dealt with by other training. Work at height accounts for the greatest number of fatalities in construction but can be minimised by sensible precautions to prevent falls or injuries from tools and materials dropping onto people working or moving below.
