Mental Health First Aid

Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) is an important issue that anyone working with children, young people and families should have knowledge of to keep children safe from harm and abuse. This course has been developed to help practitioners understand the complications involved with child sexual exploitation cases and issues. They will learn which children are at highest risk of CSE, how children become implicated in CSE and why young people react in the way they do. The course also provides essential information on best practice on being aware, recognising and responding to concerns, and making referrals to social care.

This course intends to enhance students’ knowledge of sexual health, smoking, drugs, alcohol and their uses and misuses. Therefore, it provides a basis for individuals to develop increased social awareness, assists in the support for the relevant government policies through an educational model, and provides students with knowledge in relation to health issues surrounding the use and misuse of different types of substances. This course has been developed to provide young people in particular a high level of knowledge and understanding on health issues, effects, consequences and legislation which surround and affect their age group.

This course has been developed to help participants clarify their own thoughts on the mentoring process and develop a model of mentoring that suits their specific context. It also provides opportunities to learn more about the necessary interpersonal skills required for successful mentoring. Participants will examine the skills, behaviours and values essential to become an effective mentor. Through discussions, interactive exercises and case studies the course will cover the essentials of mentoring alongside potential pitfalls and problems. We also introduce participants to reflective, transformative and empowering communication tools of mentoring to develop personal and professional abilities and potential.

This course has been developed to provide a high level of current knowledge and understanding on safeguarding. All organisations that work with or come into contact with children should have safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure that every child, regardless of their age, gender, religion or ethnicity, can be protected from harm. Setting up and following good safeguarding policies and procedures means children, young people and vulnerable adults are safe from others who might pose a risk.
