This workshop has a blended approach with an e-learning module and a live webinar. During this workshop you will learn what deafness is and some of its causes. You will also be able to describe best practices when communicating with children with a hearing loss. On completion you will able to use some basic signs and describe ways to use books and rhymes to support children with a hearing loss Who is this training for? This workshops is designed for all mainstream early years practitioners.

Healthy Minds tackles issues around low self-esteem, isolation, stress and anxiety. It encourages use of positive strategies for dealing with change, managing deafness, developing confidence and building social skills. During this training, you will learn how to effectively use our Healthy Minds resource. You will have opportunities to try these techniques and methods, whilst sharing ideas with others. You’ll leave feeling inspired and confident to encourage deaf children and young people to explore ideas and create strategies to prevent low self-esteem and poor mental health.

This is a series of modules that will help you learn about hearing devices and assistive technology for deaf children and young people. It will give you a good understanding of how technology can support inclusion and independence. The modules are appropriate for all professionals working with deaf children and young people. This module aims to develop awareness and understanding of the most common hearing devices used by deaf children and young people, what they do, how they work and the benefits they bring to the user. The module takes 30 minutes to complete.

Find out how childhood deafness can impact deaf children in the early years if they do not receive the support they need. This module is the perfect place to start learning about childhood deafness and only takes about 10 minutes to complete. The module has been developed for anyone who works with deaf children in early years settings, particularly mainstream practitioners.

The module will help you understand the differences between British Sign Language (BSL) and Sign Supported English and finally you will learn some BSL signs and fingerspelling. This module will take about 30 minutes to complete.

This e-learning mini module will help you understand the temporary hearing loss that can affect children, often caused by glue ear. It provides practical suggestions for adapting your practice to support children who are affected. The mini module is appropriate for all mainstream practitioners. It’s the perfect place to start learning about temporary hearing loss and only takes about 15 minutes to complete.

This training will prepare parents of deaf children who have volunteered to support other parents in a similar position to carry out their role. The training will cover the range of skills needed to be an effective parent supporter and ensure our volunteers are armed with the knowledge they need to support others, make referrals as appropriate and know where to go for advice. Important considerations like safeguarding, emotional health and well-being of volunteers and those they support are key to this training.

This course uses evidence-based strategies that deliver positive impact for families and deaf children. It is designed to teach you how to use our resource with parents and carers you support. We will provide you with all the plans, resources and evaluation tools you need. Enabling you to deliver and measure the impact of the programme. This workshop is designed for specialist practitioners who work with families e.g. Teachers of the deaf, Speech therapists, social workers.

Our one-day workshop has been designed to help you fully include deaf children in the life of your setting. During this workshop you will learn about deafness, what this means in early years and how you can adapt your practice. You'll leave feeling inspired and confident in changes you can make to your setting to be fully inclusive. This workshop is designed for all practitioners who are new to working with deaf children.

These e-learning modules to help you gain confidence and competence in identifying and responding to bullying of deaf children and young people. These interactive modules will equip you with the essential knowledge to spot potential bullying and fully support deaf children and young people if they experience it. Module 1 is the perfect place to start learning about bullying and the impact it may have on deaf children and young people. Module 2 will explore the impact of bullying in further depth and explain how you should respond and report concerns about bullying. Each module takes 30 minutes to complete.
