Domestic Abuse and the Workplace, Policy & Safe Leave in NI

A collaborative partnership with the Department of Education, has enabled Women’s Aid Federation Northern Ireland to implement a two-day capacity building training programme for teachers. This programme aims to assist teachers to understand the context and impact of domestic abuse on the lives of children and their families. It supports teachers to develop preventative and early intervention strategies in relation to children who do not feel safe, especially children affected by domestic abuse. Furthermore, it enables teachers to deliver the Helping Hands programme linked to the curriculum.

This course has been designed to enable learners to gain more understanding of Domestic Abuse and the impact it has on victims and survivors This course will explore the impact of Domestic Abuse on children and young people. By completing this course, you will gain an understanding of Domestic Abuse in relation to your role with children and young people in the education sector in Northern Ireland.

This course, has been designed to enable learners to gain more understanding of Trauma Informed Practice in particular when working with victims and survivors of Domestic Abuse. This course will explore what Trauma is and how we respond to trauma. It will also provide guidance on the Practitioner & Organisational Response needed for trauma Informed Practice in the field of Domestic Abuse. By completing this course you will gain an understanding of Trauma Informed Practice and how to signpost to relevant Domestic Abuse support services.

The overall aim of this eLearning course is to build capacity to respond to Coercive Control in line with new Domestic Abuse & Civil Proceeding Act 2021 in Northern Ireland. This course has been designed to enable learners to find out more about the new domestic abuse legislation, the complex nature of coercive control and how to use this knowledge to inform their practice. There are 4 modules in the course namely Prevalence of Domestic Abuse (DA), Impact of DA, Legislation in Action and Partners in Action. It also includes links to further reading and resources.

This course, has been designed to enable learners to find out more about the new non-fatal strangulation legislation, the effects of non-fatal strangulation and how to use this knowledge to inform their practice. Throughout this course you will learn, What non-fatal strangulation is, The signs of non-fatal strangulation, Non-fatal strangulation and domestic abuse, Non-fatal strangulation and the law in N. Ireland.
