To lower emissions from the construction sector, changes need to be implemented, such as more holistic and efficient building designs, reusing building materials wherever possible and using non-fossil fuel-powered machinery. Research conducted by Paymentsense revealed that 66% of UK consumers prioritise ethical factors when selecting dining options, while Visit England reported that 58% of individuals seek accommodation with green certifications and environmentally conscious practices. In 2021, the disposal and treatment of waste, including wastewater, accounted for 6% of the UK's total greenhouse gas emissions. At present, a staggering 70% of waste in the UK is sent to landfills, underscoring a pressing issue regarding methane emissions' regulation and control. To put this into perspective, one tonne of biodegradable waste can produce anywhere between 200 and 400 cubic meters of landfill gas. This underscores the critical need for more sustainable waste management practices to mitigate their environmental impact.
