Iris-Claw IOL Implantation: Indications, Outcomes and Complications

Literature

About the CPD Course

This retrospective study evaluated iris-claw intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in 42 eyes with aphakia and other complex cases lacking adequate capsular support. Aphakia, dislocated IOLs and subluxated IOLs were the most common indications. More than half of patients achieved a best corrected visual acuity of 6/6–6/9 postoperatively. Although postoperative cystoid macular oedema and raised intraocular pressure were the most frequent complications, overall outcomes were favourable, supporting iris-claw IOL implantation as a safe and effective option in tertiary ophthalmic practice.
