Awareness of Complex PTSD in the Perinatal period

This is a basic course in perinatal mental health and illness, designed to introduce the participant into the importance of good mental health during the perinatal period. It explores the impact on the family and society, looks at why this is important.

Having an awareness of the cultural traditions and beliefs of ethnic minorities during the antenatal and postnatal period has a supportive effect for parents and their children. Understanding the differing rites, rituals, attitudes, and management of perinatal mental health can aid health and social care practitioners to customise their delivery of services to allow easier and effective access.

Exploring the role and mental health of fathers during the perinatal period (both during pregnancy and following childbirth). Examining the symptomology of depression and discussing management techniques to support the family.

This course explores the trajectory of perinatal mental health and illness and the impact this condition has on the family. It examines the importance of perinatal mental health within society and expands the health practitioner's knowledge and skills of listening when used as a therapeutic intervention.
