Positive Behavioural Support - Coaches in Practice Programme

Active Support is an approach to supporting people with additional needs to participate fully in their daily lives. This is an introductory workshop about Active Support, which is a primary/proactive intervention within the Positive Behaviour Support framework. The aim of Active Support is to improve quality of life. The Active Support approach provides a system for training staff teams to maximise engagement, maximise participation, and ultimately increasing independence.

This workshop is aimed at all staff within residential or supported living services for adults. It provides the introductory knowledge about positive behaviour support that everyone should have within an organisation aiming to implement PBS. The contents of the workshop cover, The foundations of PBS, The importance of values and the ethical basis of PBS, Understanding what makes someone more vulnerable to presenting with behaviours that challenge, Understanding the functions of behaviour, Understanding the person and providing the right support, The contents of this workshop are mapped onto the knowledge elements of PBS Academy competence framework for direct contact staff.

This 1 day workshop is an introduction to school-wide PBS for staff within your organisation, It provides a solid base for the development of PBS practice in line with the PBS Competence Framework.

After a brief overview of the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approach and the characteristics of a capable environment, this course will give service managers and team leaders a range of tools to assess and improve the capability of your service and the functioning of your teams. You will be guided on using the tools to inform the content of behaviour support plans that improve the quality of life of the people you support.
