The course has a practical focus where learners are given opportunity to practice their technique in a lifelike simulated environment. Assessment will form part of overall clinical competence. Individuals are expected to return to the workplace and be supervised performing the procedure until deemed fully competent. The theory part of the course covers relevant anatomy, physiology, site selection, order of blood draw, infection control, ANTT and sharps safety. Learners are walked through the phlebotomy procedure and will discuss complications and troubleshooting.
