The course includes an overview of the principles of communication in a crisis, development of media strategies and identifying key messages/narratives. Includes practical experience of a media interview. Aimed at individuals who may be required to prepare and communicate messages on behalf of their organisation during a Major Incident response. Thereby, raising awareness and introducing the different aspects of how to interact with external media organisations and partner agency communications teams during a Major Incident.

A one-day exercise for organisations to provide a refresher re the Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Principles (JESIP), Joint Decision Model (JDM) and International Ship and Port Security (ISPS). Followed by a multi-level paper feed exercise to simulate a complex Major Incident response followed by a comprehensive de-brief. Aimed at individuals who may be required to undertake a command role, at Strategic (Gold), Tactical (Silver) or Operational (Bronze) levels. Raising awareness re the different aspects of the command structure (including multi agency working) to seek learning around areas of improvement. Identifying key recommendations during the exercise and in a report provided afterwards.
