Schwartz Rounds facilitation training for smaller organisations

Patient and Family Centred Care (PFCC) is a patient-centred quality improvement collaborative in which multi-disciplinary teams in healthcare settings come together to work on common problems. It takes place over around 12 months with 3 collaborative learning sessions interspersed by action periods in which improvements in the teams’ services are designed and tested.

This 3 day programme is designed to teach the theory and practice of experience based codesign - a method which engages staff and patients to work together to understand better how patients and staff experience health care and to work together to make the changes which will improve healthcare services.

The purpose of this training and development day is to bring together new and existing mentors to ensure they are confident with the mentoring procedure and familiar with the materials. The day has a developmental feel, sharing experience, developing skills and updating on the work and thinking of the point of care foundation.

This is an online training programme for organisations who are established in running Schwartz Rounds. This was developed in response to demand for an easier and faster way to access training. The facilitators are trained to deliver the Schwartz Rounds according to a specific model which is structured and evidenced-based. Their main task is to ensure that the Round discussion stays reflective and does not stray into problem solving.

The Point of Care Foundation provide two days of training in order for healthcare staff to facilitate Schwartz Rounds in organisations across the UK. Schwartz Rounds provide a structured forum where all staff, clinical and non-clinical, come together regularly to discuss the emotional and social aspects of working in healthcare. The purpose of Rounds is to understand the challenges and rewards that are intrinsic to providing care, not to solve problems or to focus on the clinical aspects of patient care. Evidence shows that staff who attend Rounds feel less stressed and isolated, with increased insight and appreciation for each other&#39,s roles. They also help to reduce hierarchies between staff and to focus attention on relational aspects of care.

These rounds are a structured confidential multi-disciplinary forum for all staff to come together on a monthly basis to discuss and reflect on the emotional and social aspects of caring for patients. These will give staff support and time and space to reflect on their roles that they might not otherwise have in their everyday routines on busy hospital wards. The facilitators have been trained to deliver according to a structured and evidence-based model

A one day training course for facilitators to run Team Time, a new model in team based reflective practice in the NHS. The training is based around a tried and tested course that we currently run for Schwartz facilitators.

This two day training course prepares facilitator to run Schwartz round safely and effectively that discuss emotional and social issues that arise in caring for patients.
