Specialist IDVA Training - Supporting Romani (Gypsy), Roma and Irish Traveller survivors

This training aims to strengthen inclusive practice for Romani (Gypsy), Roma and Irish Traveller pupils. It also aims to support education workers to understand exclusion pathways, therefore giving them the skills to identify and prevent coercive exclusions. Overall, this training supports staff to build safer, more culturally aware school environments.

This training supports talking therapy providers and mental health professionals to improve access to and experiences of services for Romani (Gypsy) and Irish Traveller communities. The course explores cultural awareness, ethnicity, barriers to accessing mental health support, discrimination, and inclusive practice. Participants will gain a better understanding of the lived experiences of these communities and develop practical approaches to delivering culturally competent, accessible, and person-centred talking therapy services. The training is delivered online with voice-over narration and has a duration of approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.

This short training programme aims to improve participants’ understanding of the differences between the Romani (Gypsy), Roma, Irish and Scottish Travellers as well as an overview of the different barriers and challenges faced by these communities. This course is suitable for anyone working with the different communities and/or those seeking to improve their understanding.
