Modular Pavements. Design and Specification Essentials.

This CPD is aimed at professionals involved in design and specification of modular pavements. In August 21 the British Standards Institute published an extensively re-written version of the BS7533 which had been in its old 12 part form for some twenty years, during which time it had acquired a reputation for being difficult to use in practice. With its detailed knowledge of the previous and new versions, Steintec has prepared this presentation as an informative overview of the main changes and improvements and what they mean for the designer.

The CPD is aimed at engineers, landscape architects and architects. It addresses the crucially important relationship between precise design and correct materials specification to avoid the damaging consequences of moisture trapped within the structural layers of modular pavements. The dynamics of this are not widely known or taken into account by designers so the CPD examines existing guidance references and standards and translates these into practical design advice and solutions.

The course covers the essential design considerations of modular pavement construction and the relationship between aesthetics and engineering requirements so it's relevant to both architects and engineers alike. The presentation itself can be concluded within an hour although it can provoke a lot of discussion and questions. The course aims to bring delegates to an essential level of knowledge, embodied in a checklist of critical design considerations, on which we can more easily develop project specific detail as/when/if required.

The CPD provides an overview of the SuDS concept, the continuing need for its adoption in future development and construction. The concept of the permeable pavement, a component of SuDS is then examined in detail within the context of SuDS. The examination extends to the maintenance and longevity of permeable pavements.
