About the event

The number of sexual offence cases waiting to go to court stands at an all-time high whilst only around 2.1% are estimated to lead to charges. 3 years on from the Rape Review and with the Government’s ambition to halve violence against women and girls; improving the handling of Rape and Serious Sexual Offences (RASSO) cases and rebuilding trust in the criminal justice system is urgent. The event will spotlight: Plans to deliver specialist courts and fast-tracking rape cases to address backlogs. Next steps for the Victims and Prisoners Act 2024 Implementing a victim-centred and trauma informed approach to support services. Improving multi-agency working across police forces; the CPS and prosecutors to improve prosecutions and sentencing.
