CPD in the Transport Industry

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) is an independent professional body for individuals associated with logistics, supply chains and all transport. CILT is represented in more than 30 countries across the world, with over 33,000 members. CILT have made a strong commitment to CPD and all members are expected to adopt this as part of their career paths. CILT states that commitment to CPD is seen as a key indicator for upgrading to higher levels of membership.

The Road Haulage Association (RHA) states “In today’s competitive market it is increasingly important to stay ahead of the game and Continuing Professional Development enables you to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in your sector.”

The Institute of Operations Management (IOM) explains that members should keep a record of CPD learning activities and include a realistic assessment to which the objectives set have been achieved. To gain full benefit the results of learning should be properly recorded and this evidence can be built into future CPD reviews, and support of applications for promotion or a new job and, if applicable, professional upgrading to Member or Fellow status.

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) states the Driving Standards Agency are urging all approved driving instructors to log and record with the DSA that each member is committed to completing a minimum of one day per year of CPD training as well as abiding by the general code of practice.
