St Barnabas Hospice - CPD Member Case Study

We have been asking our members from across the industries the reasons why they became a CPD provider. This CPD Member case study was provided by St Barnabas Hospice. For more information, please visit their CPD Member Directory page.

Please provide us with a brief overview of your organisation. What do you do?

St Barnabas Hospice is a charity in Lincolnshire providing palliative and end-of-life care to adults living with a life-limiting or terminal illness. In addition to our Palliative & End of Life Care expertise, SBH Education, our education arm, provides professional clinical development in healthcare across a wide range of health and social care subjects. The ability to market our diverse course portfolio generates vital income for the charity and also benefits staff, communities, patients and the wider healthcare system.

Why did you become a CPD provider?

Certification of our courses by The CPD Certification Service is another layer in our quality assurance processes. We are passionate that the education we provide is high quality and evidence-based, offering fun and interactive elements. The CPD Certification Service act as our critical friend ensuring what we offer is grounded in sound educational principles. Additionally, the CPD Certification help us to spread the word about our courses by adding them to their website.

How did you implement CPD accreditation in your organisation?

We designed a quality assurance system process from course inception to post delivery evaluation. CPD certification was embedded as a crucial part of this process. In this way we were able to consider CPD certification as 'business as usual' and we send every course we create, even if the course is for delivery to internal staff only, for certification. The CPD certification system is easy to navigate and feedback and advice is always valuable contributing to the quality of our education.

How has CPD helped your organisation achieve its learning objectives?

Embedding CPD into St Barnabas and the wider healthcare system has fed directly into the objectives of our Organisational Strategy. Our own staff have access on request to high quality, evidence-based education and we deliver education to a range of other NHS Trusts which allows us to contribute to the wider healthcare system. Educated clinicians deliver better patient care and feel invested in by their employers. Additionally, CPD allows us to generate income for St Barnabas contributing directly to the sustainability of the charity in the future. Thank you CPD Certification Service for working in partnership with us and helping us to make SBH Education something really special!
