Controlled Drugs Medication Module

Provides staff who work in Adult Day Care, with sufficient knowledge to enable the safe & effective administration of medicines. The modules give an end-to-end description of medicines management covering the legal framework of medication, the law around prescriptions & once they have completed the relevant module they will have knowledge of drugs & medicines, the actions of medicines on the body & their side effects. All the legal aspects of medication handling, responsibility & accountability are also covered & the implications to the attendees if they fail in their duty of care.

Provides staff who work in social care, with sufficient knowledge to enable the safe & effective administration & application of creams. Delivered by a pharmacist or healthcare professional, the module includes the expiry dates of creams, how to apply creams, topical steroids, fingertip units, emollients, topical anti-inflammatory painkillers, topical anti-fungals & who can apply creams. The module is approximately 2 ½ hours in duration, a workbook is provided & a certificate on successful completion of the multi-choice assessment.

This module keeps learners up to date with current legislation as the module is reviewed, updated regularly as legislation & recommended practice changes. It ensures when learners assess their staff as they administer medication in a real life scenario, a key part of their role, they will adhere to law, recommended practice & thus contribute to the overall health, wellbeing & more over dignity, of their service users by ensuring their staff are using, adhering to best practise. The assessor’s knowledge of best practise around administering medication means the knowledge they gain from this module should ensure this knowledge is first class.

Provides staff with sufficient knowledge to enable the safe & effective administration of medicines in young people’s care settings, the content & delivery being suitable for both carers & nurses.

This module aims to provide carers & nurses with the knowledge they need to enable them to safely & effectively manage diabetes and it covers: Signs & symptoms of diabetes, Management & various treatments & how to administer them, Blood glucose testing, Diet & exercise & the complications. This module is 4 hours in duration, a workbook is provided and a certificate on successful completion of the multi choice assessment.

The aim of our Emergency Medication Module is to provide staff with sufficient knowledge to enable the safe & effective management of emergency medication. After completing the module staff will: Know about anaphylaxis & how to administer an EpiPen. Know about epilepsy & how to administer buccal midazolam. Know about asthma & how to administer salbutamol. Know about diabetes & treating hypos & hypers. The module is delivered by a pharmacist or pharmacy technician & is 4 hours in duration, a workbook is provided, & a certificate is issued upon successful completion of the multi choice assessment.

This module aims to provide carers & nurses with sufficient knowledge to enable the safe & effective administration of medicines in care settings plus extra information & enhance their knowledge of how different medications work improving their care & awareness. It provides theoretical knowledge, the practical assessment of competency being carried out in the care setting by the line manager. It is delivered by a fully qualified Pharmacist registered with the GPhC & is 6 hours in duration, a workbook is provided & a certificate on successful completion of the multi-choice assessment.

Provides staff with sufficient knowledge to enable the safe & effective administration of medicines to manage & treat epilepsy in care settings. The content & delivery being suitable for both carers & nurses.

This module provides foster carers with sufficient knowledge to enable the safe & effective administration of medicines. The modules give an end-to-end description of medicines management covering the legal framework of medication, the law around prescriptions & once they have completed the relevant module, they will have knowledge of drugs & medicines, the actions of medicines on the body & their side effects. All the legal aspects of medication handling, responsibility & accountability are also covered & the implications to the attendees if they fail in their duty of care.

Provides carers & nurses working in home care with sufficient knowledge to enable the safe & effective administration of medicines in a person’s own home.

The aim of the Medication Audit Module is to provide the auditor (team leader, senior carer, manager etc) with sufficient knowledge to enable them to feel confident to audit medication & MAR charts in a social care setting. The module is approximately 2 hours in duration, a workbook is provided & a certificate on successful completion of the multi-choice assessment.

Provides staff with sufficient knowledge to enable effective oral heath support for their clients. Delivered by a qualified Pharmacist or Technician registered with the GPhC, including, the regulator recommendations, the NICE Quality Standards, how oral health affects clients. Understanding what the role of care staff is, about the Oral Health Assessment Tool & how to prevent gum disease, tooth decay & abscesses, what the guidelines are for brushing teeth & dentures, understanding about dental care. Plus, specifically for clients with learning disabilities, How to support these clients with oral care & the challenges & tips & to help overcome these.

Provides staff who work in social care with sufficient knowledge to enable the safe & effective administration of PRN medication. Delivered by a pharmacist or healthcare professional, the module includes what a PRN is, care plans, PRN Protocols, documentation of PRNs inc. the 6 rights of administration, points to consider, reviewing PRNs, discontinuing PRNs & the different types of PRNs including anxiety, insomnia, vomiting, pain & indigestion. The module is approximately 2 hours in duration, a workbook is provided & a certificate on successful completion of the multi-choice assessment. 

Provides staff who work in Respite Care, with sufficient knowledge to enable the safe & effective administration of medicines. The module gives an end-to-end description of medicines management covering the legal framework of medication, the law around prescriptions & once they have completed the relevant module, they will have knowledge of drugs & medicines, the actions of medicines on the body & their side effects. All the legal aspects of medication handling, responsibility & accountability are also covered & the implications to the attendees if they fail in their duty of care.

Provides staff who work in schools with sufficient knowledge to enable the safe & effective administration of medicines. The modules give an end-to-end description of medicines management covering the legal framework of medication, the law around prescriptions & once they have completed the relevant module they will have knowledge of drugs & medicines, the actions of medicines on the body & their side effects. All the legal aspects of medication handling, responsibility & accountability are also covered & the implications to the attendees if they fail in their duty of care.

The module gives an end-to-end description of medicines management covering the legal framework of medication, the law around prescriptions & once they have completed the relevant module, they will have knowledge of drugs & medicines, the actions of medicines on the body & their side effects. All the legal aspects of medication handling, responsibility & accountability are also covered & the implications to the attendees if they fail in their duty of care.

Provides staff who work in Supported Living / Extra Care Housing, with sufficient knowledge to enable the safe & effective administration of medicines. The module gives an end-to-end description of medicines management covering the legal framework of medication, the law around prescriptions & once they have completed the relevant module, they will have knowledge of drugs & medicines, the actions of medicines on the body & their side effects. All the legal aspects of medication handling, responsibility & accountability are also covered & the implications to the attendees if they fail in their duty of care.

This module is to provide care staff with sufficient knowledge to enable the safe & effective witnessing of checking in medication including different medication systems, handwriting a MAR chart, a “verbal order” over the phone, discontinuation of medication on a MAR & the administration of controlled drugs. All staff involved in medicines witnessing should ideally be trained fully on the safe handling of medicines. This module is 2.5 hours in duration, a workbook is provided & a certificate on successful completion of the multi-choice assessment.
