This practical workshop focuses on understanding bias and the affect that this has on effective educational supervision. This interactive session provides supervisors with an overview of the key mental health and wellbeing problems that may arise for trainees, such as depression and anxiety, chronic stress and being at risk of burnout. It will also explore how personality traits can impact a doctor's wellbeing and progress through training. Through case- based exercises Supervisors will have the opportunity to discuss and reflect upon their roles as well as refresh their skills and practice having conversations around mental health.

The course will encourage delegates to consider, in the context of clinical safety, situations where the environment could and should be adjusted to enable the benefits of increased diversity in the clinical workforce and where neurodiversity might present a barrier to achieving competency required for a role.
